Hey wonder if you can help im using windows server 2003 and well the set up looks compleatly different why is this
Small Business Server has a number of setup wizards that don’t come standard with normal Windows Server. This is simply because the packaged is aimed at owner operators rather than companies with in house IT expertise. The wizards do exactly the same thing as you would manually however they ensure that all the steps are done in a consistent manner everytime. Unfortunately, if you use Windows Server they expect you know what u r doing!
Ty i am not using windows business server 2003 i am using its predecesor i think w server 2003 enterprize edition i have learnt how to add users now but now im trying to configur it to letme in as when i try to i get a nasty message saying im not premitted to acess it and to contact my admin
Just use Active Directory and setup a domain it is ten times easier in the long run even if it is just a stand alone server
SBS is designed to be set up with wizards. Doing things manually might work but may end up not being integrated with SBS. You also run the risk of missing a configuration step since the wizards does more than simply add a user to AD. Also adding a user via the wizard can be done without AD experience which is typically what people who own SBS don’t have.
The SBS wizard ensures that tasks like creating users is completed the same way ever time which greatly reduces the chances of errors.
