1st view. GO BOB!
Am I missing something here Bob? Surely Leica will ask you to take the site down for unauthorised use of the name or cyber squatting.
I have a friend who had a cease and desist order for using a trade name and i am currently having to change a domain for the same reason.
Confused!
Q: What is the difference between a URL and a Domain name??? I could see that the kw Leica was in the end of the url but not in the domain – how does that happen?
Great tips on choosing a Domain name. Thanks !
Valprop you certainly have a point. I too would strongly advise against using any brands or trademark names in a website or anywhere for that matter unless you own them. You will have a cease and desist order from the attorney of the company that owns it in no time. Therefore the Leica example would probably spell trouble.
I got a cease and desist letter when I built a website on a domain that had the word “Realtor” in it. The word Realtor is protected same as Leica. If you want to waste time and money then register a name that contains a company name. Do your research before you register!!!
Same question, please help¡
Hi everyone, Caro here
Just to clarify, Robert used this example for two reasons:
a) To be consistent with day 2
b) We’ve picked examples that deliberately do not meet the 30DC criteria, as in the past real examples have been pummelled by not so well intentioned people with obscene linking etc
NET: We DO NOT recommend you acquire a domain that includes any brand names, unless you own that brand name.
Caro
Thanks, Princess Caro, for the explanation. Totally responsive and helpful.
does the length of the domain name matter?
I once set up a monetized blog that had a long domain name (4 words in it) and had been advised by a SEO specialist to change it to a shorter domain name. He said that Google regard long domains as a spam site.
I changed it to 2 words – without my best keyphrase in it because my target keyphrase was “too long”. I did a 301 redirect.
After that, my emails to my list started going to their SPAM box! Aaarrgh.
Can you clarify these issues? Thanks
This is awesome content! BUT why does everything have to be soo damned boring??? Each of these videos could be 2 to 5 minutes long.
thank you
worldmodelcoach – Be grateful you get this free content. The energy you waste complaining can be used in other productive ways. Peace.
if your chosen domain is already taken then instead of using hyphens you should use words such as “with/for/by/and/the/site” using one of these words with your keyphrase is much better then adding a hyphen to the domain.
I was watching a google conference with that one google dude and he was reviewing websites for seo-ness.
The google guy actually chastised a site for not including the word iTrip, I think it was. He said the website was missing out on a lot of traffic by leaving that word out of his iPod car adapter website.
I don’t think that the official google guy would give illegal advice. I can see companies having a point with their tm in domain names, if it’s outlined in their affiliate conditions.
You can’t be productive is you are not interested. If something is presented in this way, the point, not matter how good, is lost.
You can learn a lot from this video.
I believe there’s a better coupon which gives you the first month for Baby plan hosting for only $0.01, and if you’re buying domain + hosting or any other package, you’ll get $9.94 off. The coupon code is: ” BIGSAVINGS “.
Just use that coupon code? once you’re asked to? chose a domain name so that you get to pay only $0.01 for your HostGator Web Hosting.
